Players stall on ladders because they bring their favourite car instead of the right one. The ladder does not care what you like driving.
Start from the requirement
Identify the distance and any restrictions the ladder uses before choosing a car. If the ladder caps performance, your fastest car is disqualified from the conversation entirely.
Choose for shape, not headline numbers
Within a cap, the car that spends its allowance on the qualities the distance rewards will beat the car with the flashier top speed. Short ladders reward launch and early acceleration; longer ones reward sustained pull.
Upgrade to the cap, not past it
Overshooting a cap wastes money and can push you out of the bracket. Upgrade deliberately, checking your rating as you go, and stop when the build sits where you intended.
Tune specifically for it
Use a logged tune built for that exact distance. This is the situation the log exists for: you want to switch to a known-good setup, not rediscover it.
Practise the first shift
Ladder races are usually decided early. Whichever gear change matters most on your car, run it until it is automatic before entering.
Keep the car intact
Once a ladder car works, resist stripping it for parts. Rebuilding it later costs more than keeping it.
